The Pittsburg Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) works alongside the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to assist with new and existing businesses in Pittsburg and the surrounding area. The SBDC is a partnership program with U.S. Small Business Administration that is designed to provide small businesses with the practical assistance needed to survive, grow and prosper. 

The SBDC offers no cost, one on one counseling on:

  • business planning
  • strategic planning
  • human resources
  • marketing and promotion
  • financial analysis
  • accounting

Counselors can help with a variety of other things, including:

  • financial analysis and improving profitability
  • developing competitive strategies
  • understanding and securing loans

There are a number classes and assistance through the NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg that focus on continuing education, corporate training, allied health,  and a variety of leadership courses.  The Hanson-Sewell Center includes five classrooms, including a computer and distance learning laboratory.  The large conference room can also be used as two small classrooms.  The building is also designed to accommodate community meetings, banquets, and events, or by area businesses for professional meetings.

The State of Texas also offers information about opening or owning a business. The Governor's Small Business Handbook is a great resource and helps answer many business questions.

In addition, the Office of the Governor is hosting annual Small Business Forums and Workshops to provide timely, relevant and actionable information to the business community and the opportunity to network with local, state and federal resource partners. In 2019, they will be hosting events in six Main Street Communities – Amarillo, Bastrop, Nacogdoches, Paris, Plainview and Weatherford
