In 2008, the East Texas Medical Center system undertook the task of constructing a new hospital facility, one that would mirror the quality of care provided there. The new ETMC Pittsburg, which opened in September 2009, is located in a pastoral setting just outside the city on U.S. Highway 271 North.
The hospital features a 25-bed nursing unit with private rooms, 16 clinic spaces, two surgical suites and a gastrointestinal laboratory. The emergency department includes six exam rooms, two observation rooms and a two-bay major treatment room.
The campus also houses the Patty and “Bo” Pilgrim ETMC Olympic Center, a state-of-the-art health and fitness center.
In February 2013, the hospital broke ground for an expansion of the surgery department. The area houses two rooms dedicated to gastroenterology and pain management procedures.
In recent years the hospital has added services in response to community need as well, such as coagulation monitoring clinic and extending the hours of the ETMC First Physicians clinic to evenings and weekends. Most recently, they have joined with Tyler-based Azalea Orthopedics to provide highly specialized orthopedic care at ETMC Pittsburg, allowing patients to stay close to home for treatment and rehabilitation.
ETMC Pittsburg serves as home to more than a dozen primary care providers, as well a number of visiting specialists in areas such as cardiology, orthopedics, pain management, urology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, neurology and podiatry.
